This is the PDF Version of the book of the same title. There is no way to fully measure or to appreciate the profundity of each weekly parshah. One must constantly study it and “turn it over and over again,” forever extracting finer and more subtle truths. Doing so certainly increases one’s awe of Torah, which is crucial for continuous growth. The very first parshah, Bereishis, illustrates this point beautifully. If any parshah provides the essential concepts upon which all else is built, it is this one. It is Parashas Bereishis that discusses the spiritual and physical beginning of all existence, and it is clear that one lifetime would not be enough to make a thorough study of it. Nevertheless, when it is all said and done, it is possible to examine in depth this seminal parshah, even without entering into the realm of Jewish mysticism. Even without the help of Kabbalah, even on the level of Pshat, Parashas Bereishis is a book unto itself. There is plenty of room and need for a verse-by-verse examination of the early words of the Torah. A foundation is a foundation on every level, and though Bereishis is a “beginning without an end,” in the end, one must begin somewhere.
